Why do I need a Windows Vista™ 64-bit-compatible version of my CA consumer product?

Windows Vista 64-bit is different in many ways from previous versions of Windows, and we have modified our existing products to ensure they are compatible with this new operating system. If you use Windows Vista 64-bit on your PC, you must install the Windows Vista 64-bit-compatible version of your CA consumer product to ensure that it operates properly.

How are your Windows Vista 64-bit-compatible products going to be made available?

As our Windows Vista 64-bit compatible products become available, current subscribers can download and install a free update from this website.

If you purchase a CA consumer product from a retail outlet, depending on when and where you purchase it, either the packaging will indicate how to obtain a Windows Vista-compatible version, or a Windows Vista-compatible version will be on the CD included in the box.

New customers who purchase and download CA consumer products from the CA online store after the release of Windows Vista 64-bit-compatible versions, automatically receive the Windows Vista 64-bit-compatible version.

What happens if I try to install a CA product that is not Windows Vista 64-bit-compatible on my Windows Vista PC?

If you install an incompatible version on a new Windows Vista 64-bit PC, you may receive an incompatibility message indicating that you cannot install the product on Windows Vista. Download the Windows Vista-compatible version of the product and follow the upgrade instructions provided on shop.ca.com/64bit.

What Activation Code should I use?

Use the Activation Code you received either in your boxed product, if you purchased your product from a retail store, or in your confirmation email, if you purchased and downloaded your product from an online store,when installing the Windows Vista 64-bit compatible version of your product.

If I am upgrading my PC to Windows Vista and I have an incompatible version of a CA product on my PC. Do I have to uninstall the CA software to continue the upgrade?

Yes. You must uninstall the incompatible version of the CA software. After you have finished installing Windows Vista, you can install the Windows Vista 64-bit-compatible version of your CA product.

Will previous versions of CA consumer products be Windows Vista 64-bit compatible?

Previous versions of CA consumer products (for example, eTrust® EZ Antivirus, eTrust® PestPatrol® Anti-Spyware, and eTrust® EZ Armor) will not be made compatible with Windows Vista. However, current subscribers who use older versions of our products are eligible for free upgrades to the Windows Vista-compatible 2007 versions.

Which editions of Windows Vista will CA consumer products support?

CA consumer products will be compatible with all Consumer editions of Windows Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium and Ultimate).
